Key Learning Areas

Students are assessed across the following key learning areas:

• Number and arithmetic: operate with numbers and demonstrate number sense; work with natural numbers, integers, and later rational and real numbers; apply a range of strategies for computation and understand number properties
• Algebra and patterns: recognise and continue number patterns; use symbols and pronumerals and eventually solve problems using algebraic techniques
• Chance and data: represent, summarise, and interpret data; assess likelihood and use probability in both experimental and theoretical situations
• Measures and units: understand and use appropriate units of measurement; measure and compare quantities and apply measurement concepts
• Space and geometry: demonstrate an understanding of the properties of two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects; use geometrical concepts and reasoning
